Clive writes: My thanks go out to all of you who attended our fall trial, as well as to the set-up crew, checkers and other help: Jim and Shirley, Steve and Theresa, Joan and Tony, Don and Donna, Roy Pope, Stew Wallace, Phil, Zane and Zev. A special thanks to Elaine for all her many skills and overall management of this trial and ECTA’s functions.
We are planning on making some changes in 2019 if we are to continue hosting observed trials. Tentatively, the two day CMA sanctioned spring event would remain as is, and entry fee would include a lifetime ECTA membership, and then we would hold a closed to club event in the fall. Any rider not at the spring event would be expected to take out a lifetime membership in the fall if they wish to compete at the club event. Additionally, ECTA could invite another club to participate, for example Steel City, ATA or CVMG.
The fall trial would consist of ten sections, five ridden before a short break and five after. This allows the existing five member ECTA checking crew to observe before and after the break. Riders at the fall trial who choose not to take a break can play amongst themselves on the five sections already ridden before the break. Essentially, these would become ten sections of a permanent nature located in pairs around the loop and could be used as two practice areas for the spring event.
I welcome your thoughts on these ideas.
Thank you for attending Mike’s Muskoka 2-Day Trial!
A great turnout for an excellent event, due in no small part to many weeks of preparation setting up 16 different sections, cutting trail, organizing checkers and feeding the masses. An incredible effort by Mike, Sarah and the boys.

Brief Awards ceremony as the riders were keen to start the 2nd day before the snow melted.
LtoR: Dave Cordy, Jon English, Lucas Cambareri, Jordan Szoke, Rob Smithurst, Brandon Cambareri, and Brian Wojnarowski. Thanks to Motosports of Trenton & GP Bikes of Whitby for the contingency prizes.
Section master and host Dave Cody presents the Serres Cup to Jon English, Expert winner of the 2018 ATA Tweed Spring Trial.
Thanks to those riders who threw caution to the wind and braved the elements, only to suffer through yet another heat wave, while the rest of Ontario hunkered down for an ice storm.
Trials master and tireless host Dave Cordy, even had the driveway paved in anticipation of the factory rigs. Next year we may need Start & End cards on the ditches.
Despite the rumoured hot weather 23 riders showed up to test the new gate marking system. Even though no-one thought to bring ice studs, Dave had adjusted the section difficulty so that most of the sections were cleaned at some time during the trial. Those 70’s Pirellis made all the difference.
Big thanks to Dave as a fun time was had by all. The Experts even showed up for more on Sunday, but the weather won by a degree or two!
…update from Clive and Elaine of the ECTA.
Good evening one and all! Hope you all enjoyed your day yesterday and congratulations to our winning riders and the door prize winners. The winner of our grand prize, Luke, will receive a gift certificate for two night’s accommodation at the Lion’s Head Beach Motel. Our memories need to be refreshed on who won the second place prize for accommodation at the same establishment, so if you were the winner, please let us know.
I’d like to thank our set up crew of Steve, Don and Jim. Our checkers for the day, many from our local chapter of the CVMG, were: Mark Kalunder, Steve Heseltine, Dick Beresford, Don and Donna Wilson, Ken Bakewell, Jim and Shirley Cox, Roy Pope, Tom Beckett, Kelly Lang. I’d also like to thank Mother Nature for the glorious day. And finally, Elaine for sign in and results aided by the ever-helpful Neil Carter.
Till next year,
Cheers,
Clive
